A really lovely antique Victorian fine needlepoint tapestry.
This shows a war time image with a cannon at the centre and I believe it may be an image from the French Revolution, or similar.
The stitched section measures 21 x 18 inches.
The stitching is very very fine with about 24 stitches per inch.
This piece has real age and I believe that it is probably Victorian, certainly over 100 years old.During different framings, the edging canvas has been cut down, so that there is now very little edging and there are nail holes at the very edge of the needlepoint, where it has been nailed to mounting boards.Otherwise for its age, it comes in lovely condition with some fading, although colours are still lovely, no damage, marking, etc.
