This wonderful and very detailed Russian Santa Claus is riding a Rein Deer and is amazingly hand carved and hand painted by the artist to enhance details in the face, costume, and the overall details of the Santa and the deer. Notice the detail on the deer\'s face, saddle and bridle as well as the ornately painted pattern on Santa\'s costume. The deer\'s reins are leather looking (See close up pictures below!) This Santa is very lightly lacquered so it is easily cleaned and protected. The antlers and ears can be removed for shipping and storage. This statuette is carved from several solid pieces of wood. The solid linden wood is dried for almost 2 years before it is carved so it will last a lifetime. Linden wood was once used to make drafting boards because it is so stable once it is properly dried. It does not warp, change shape, or crack and this artistic piece will bring enjoyment for a lifetime! (Please Note: These are not mass produced molded resin from China. All Russian Santas are one of a kind, unique, and hand carved from Linden Wood so no two Santas are ever identical.) This Grandfather Frost, as he is called in Russia, is made in Sergei Posad, Russia and is signed by the artist. This Santa measures approximately 14.25 inches tall (to the top of the deer\'s antlers) by 9.5 inches from front to back by 6.75 inches wide (from the tips of the deer\'s ears). Alexey Kikin, a master of the Abramsova (or sometimes spelled Abramtcevo) Style of Painting, dreamed of becoming an artist from early childhood. After leaving school, Alexey entered the Abramsova Art College founded by famous Russian artists, Vasnetsov, Polenov and Vrubel. Alexey gravitated towards animal sculptures and focused his studies in this area. After graduating from the Art College, he worked as a teacher teaching sculpture. Later, partnering with his wife and fellow artist, Tatiana, they created a unique style that is all their own. This style combines wooden animal sculptures with fairy painting creating this fantastic and unique style which Alexey describes as a style “in which Russian modern and empire style are merged.” We hope you enjoy his works!
