Asuper example of a WW1 Dated British Infantry Entrenching Tool with wood handle, its remarkable to find a nearly 100 year old trench item in excellent unissued condition.
The entrenching tool is nicely greased and in overall excellent unused condition. The wood handle has probably had a head attached at some point and has some marks please refer photos but again probably not used.
The Entrenching Tool was purchased along with a number of three part WW2 Entrenching Tool Sets (PLEASE REFER TO OUR OTHER items) very many moons ago when Monty Goodyer had a traditional real vintage British army surplus wharehouse in Bow in London. Among the WW2 Entrenching Tools was the odd WW1 dated one, and here is another we did not know we had !
The wood handle came from another real vintage British army surplus source and although not dated has the look of a WW1 handle with the mass produced crude wooden wedge and metal staples.
The head has the manufacturer stamp and the date 1917....you can read 191 but we are not sure of the last number, it appears to be a 7 but in fairness we cant be sure of the last number.
