Offered at sale from a South Florida Estate, is a Harder-To-Find ORIGINAL ANTIQUE WORLD WAR I GERMAN LEDERMASK GAS MASK. Through my research, I believe this is an M-1917-18 German Gas Mask. I am NOT an expert in military gear; however, from others I have consulted, as well as my own research, I believe this mask is as represented. ** PLEASE REVIEW ALL LISTING PHOTOS AND JUDGE the CONDITION and GEAR TYPE FOR YOURSELF ***
The Mask itself MEASURES 9 1/2\" x 7 1/2\" . The Fastening Strings and Ropes extend and additional 8\" x 6\".
The Metal Storage Canister is NOT included in this Lot. Given the relative Great Condition of this mask, I believe it was likely separated from its storage container not too long ago. CONDITION:GREAT ANTIQUE CONDITION. I Am NOT an expert in Antique Military Gear. I Detect a Split on the Colored Lenses. I Detect No Breaks on the Eye Goggle Attachment., No Separation of the Leather Head Gear. All Attaching Strings Ropes appear intact. There is a Shiny Line following the Seams along the sewn portions of the Mask. This is likely a reinforcing adhesive applied 70-80+ years ago to make the seams more durable.
The Metal Has No Dings or Dents but does show some Rust Wear Marks along the Gas Can itself. The Inner Wire Screens on the Lenses have No Breaks or Bends. *** IT IS IMPORTANT TO JUDGE THE CONDITION OF THIS ANTIQUE MASK YOURSELF FROM THE PHOTOS.
