You are offerding on an EXCELLENTexample of anImperialJapanese Army Type 98 \"Kou\" Magnetic Compass, as used ONLY in theKi-43, Ki-44, Ki-61, Ki-83, Ki-102, Ki-100, and Ki-106 fighters!
This instrument indicated the current direction of the aircraft and pointed to magnetic north.It was locatedon the main instrument panel of most of the front line fighters, and the occasional trainer.
Made of brass and aluminum by the Tokyo Aero Indicator Co., this piece isinVERY NICE usedcondition! It wastaken from a downed Japanese aircraft by a US Serviceman during the war, and still retains much of it\'s original finish! There is an air bubble at the top, but it is not too noticable, and much of the original fluid still remains! 100% functional,it featuresa late war Type5aluminum decal datalabel, which states the model, manufacture, and production number, however it has faded somewhat over time. There is some paint fading and chipping due to the age, but nothing that take away from the overall appearance.
Like most Japanese instruments, this gauge is VERYRARE and would be aFANTASTIC addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection!
