Up for sale today is an exceptionally beautiful and extremely desirable 1916 WWI ElginRED 12 Trench Watchwith a Mealy Manufacturing \"DUO\" Crystal Guard that features a 7 jewel movement! This absolutely remarkable piece of American craftsmanship is in SUPERB condition and has been beautifully restored! Our Great Grandfather\'s knew how to make things that would last for generations! The movement was just completely taken apart and serviced on 5-17-2016 and a brand new mainspring has also been installed. It\'s in superb running condition and keeping excellent time. This watch has been tested on a professional timegraph 5000 Machine for accuracy so rest assured! Take another look at picture number three again, this movement is clean as a whistle and stunning in it\'s beauty! I\'m sure that you have noticed by now that this is not your ordinary trench watch case by a long shot! This is a \"silverode\" trench watch case that was manufactured by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company, circa 1916. This case is highly prized by collectors for its beauty and design features. The case back and bezel both snap together crisply, just as they should. Nice to get your hands on one of these in the smaller size 3/0s but this is the even bigger size 0s. Plus, this watch still has the original factory crown. The case has been nicely polished on a professional grade machine, it now has a mirror like finish once again and looks simply fantastic! This WWI Elgin Trench Watch has been fitted with a \"snap-on\" Mealy Manufacturing \"DUO\" Crystal Guard that absolutely makes the watch, it\'s in superb condition. Underneath the guard it is stamped \"PAT.PEND.DUO, this was by far Mealy\'s most popular crystal guard during the Great War. This watch is simply incredible! The enamel dial on this trench watch is among the most desirable that Elgin ever produced, the Shadow Box RED 12 Military Dial. The dial features a bright white face, shadow box numerals, an outer chapter of minute markers, the correct skeleton hands, a sub-second at 6 o\'clock, signed \"ELGIN USA\" near the center with the RED 12 at the top.The dial and skeleton hands still have the original lum on them and they look great! The dial does have a little bit of damage but even in this condition it is quite valuable as it is a RED 12 Shadow Box Military Dial, these are very hard to come by. This historic and iconic Great War American trench watch has been fitted with a hand made genuine leather black Kitchener Strap that absolutely makes the watch! This strap was made by the Prairie Flower Leather Company and it was made using a sewing machine from the Great War era. Very high quality strap! Take a look at picture number two again, this watch looks stunning on the wrist! The strap will fit a wrist up to about 8 inches and has a matching silver tone buckle. It will have a bit of wear on it because I seriously could not resist wearing this one for a few days, can you blame me? It\'s kind of like Ferris Bueller and that Ferrari, if you had access to one would you just leave it in a garage? I think not! Here are the movement details: 1913 Elgin, 7 jewels, size 0s, serial number 18169167, grade 298. They just don\'t make them like this anymore! The case measures 39mm lug to lug, 32.6mm without the original factory crown with a 10mm lug diameter. A brand new glass crystal was just installed just UV cement and a UV curing machine. I also installed a brand new inner sleeve on the crown tube, it now has a nice firm pop, just as it should. This watch is ready to be worn and shown off, it will surely get noticed! I put a lot of time and effort into this Elgin, I\'m sure that you will appreciate the quality and quantity of work that has been done. Solid old World craftsmanship at it\'s finest! You would be seriously hard pressed to find a finer example of this Great War Elgin Trench Watch with a crystal guard and a high quality leather Kitchener Strap, this one sets the bar!
