Letters home album and photo/scrapbook album from Arthur W. Minish who served as a commander/executive officer aboard LCI (L) 340 during WWII. Large album of letters home to his parents dating from 1942-1946. All have been preserved very nicely with original mailing envelopes and some are V-Mail. Very clever usage of code names of women mentioned in letters that would reveal to his mother his actual location (a key to the code was sent in a letter and is attached in the back of the album, as shown). His letters show a great fondness and worry for his parents and a love for his hometown and state. Many signed \"Loads of Love, Buster\".
His ship served and engaged in action in the Asiatic - Pacific campaign. He mentions in one letter the ship being fitted for guns on the deck.
The photo/scrap album includes several pages of his time in New Guinea with several photographs of the countries natives. Also includes a letter from a friend who served on the USS Coral Sea and mentions D-Day. Also a few photos of shot down Japanese planes. All pages are loose from the spine and have wear. Photo album and scrapbook of letters together weigh over 4 lbs.
Mr. Minish went on to become an attorney in Carrollton, Kentucky (his hometown).
