  • Item: 1943 unframed oil on canvas by listed artist Richard Hofmann (Ger., 1881-1962) depicting a tabletop still life with flowers and fruit. Used condition painting will, at minimum, require cleaning and about 2-3% inpaint to make it look more presentable. The artist’s work can sell for $700+ at sale per Artnet sales result which also depicted flowers. I will not ship internationally – NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. Hofmann was an important German Impressionist who’d studied under Emanuel Hegenbarth (who was also the teacher of Kurt Schwitters) at the Dresden Art Academy beginning in 1899. He won the Gold Medal in the Academy Exhibition in 1909 and his work is in Dresden’s museums. In early 1945, about 1 ½ years after this painting was done, the Bombing of Dresden happened per World War II, so I think it’s amazing that this painting even survived. 20,000+ people were killed in the bombing.

  • Features: The bombing of Dresden was a British/American aerial bombing attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place during the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city. The bombing and the resulting firestorm destroyed over 1,600 acres (6.5 km2) of the city centre. An estimated 22,700 to 25,000 people were killed. Three more USAAF air raids followed, two occurring on 2 March aimed at the city\'s railroad marshaling yard and one small raid on 17 April aimed at industrial areas.
  • Background: The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (German Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden), often abbreviated HfBK Dresden or simply HfBK, is a vocational university of visual arts located in Dresden, Germany. The present institution is the product of a merger between the famous Dresden Art Academy, founded in 1764, the workplace and training ground of a number of influential European artists, and another well-established local art school, Hochschule für Werkkunst Dresden, after World War II.Emanuel Hegenbarth (born January 14, 1868 in Bohemian Kamnitz; † July 18, 1923 in Dresden) was a German painter and draftsman. Hegenbarth studied from 1884 at the Art Academy in Munich. After two years he interrupted his studies to start a business education at the trade school in Leipzig. In 1892 he took up the study in Berlin again and continued it in Munich. There he joined the Tiermalklasse by Heinrich von Rein, the chief representative of the Munich Impressionism and co-founder of the New Secession in Vienna.
