You are offerding on an original M1905(E1) bayonet manufactured by Springfield Armory. This bayonet was originally manufactured under WWI contract as an M1905 bayonet. It was manufactured in 1909 SN. 398167.... and has a nice blade with no pitting but has a few gouges on the spine. It was originally designed to fit the .30 Caliber M1903 rifle. It was modified during WWII sometime between 1944 & 1946 thus making it the Model M1905(E1) bayonet. Most modifications of the M1905 to 1905(E1) involved the shortening of the blade to 10\" & changing the handle to black or reddish colored plastic. This one is black....The blade on this one is modified with the drop point/bowie point/chisel point/beak point. It is in good condition. The blade has had alittle, if anysharpening done to it but does have a few small dents on the spine.... The rifle attachment mechanism works properly.
It comes with the M7 Scabbard. The scabbard is actually an M3 that was modified under contract to Victory Plastics in August 1943 to the M7 length. It has an arsenal metal tip on the end of it..Scabbard has lost alot of it\'s paint....This is a great piece of United States military history.
