This sale is formyVintage Waterman 52 in Black Chased Hard Rubber with a Solid 9ct Gold Barrel Band.
This Waterman fountain pen is in great condition, and dates back to around 1927. The body of the pen has faded fairly evenly to a dark brown colour over time, and features a gold plated clip and lever.The barrel is lightly engraved with the original manufacturer\'s imprints, and reads: \"Waterman\'s Reg. U.S. Ideal Pat. Off Fountain Pen\". The bottom of the engraving is quite faded though, and is quite difficult to see. The cap is also very faintly engraved with \"Waterman\'s Made in USA\", whilst the bottom of the barrel is marked \'Waterman\'s Reg U.S. Pat. Off. Made in USA\'. The end is crisply marked \'52\', indicating the model number, and this number has retained a tiny bit of it\'s original orange colour filling.
This particular 52 also features a rare solid 9ct gold barrel band, which is hallmarked \'F.D.W. 9-375\'. The F.D.W. stands for Frank D. Waterman, who was the nephew of the company\'s founder, and was mainly responsible for exporting the company\'s pens. The 9-375 resembles the 9ct gold, with a fineness of 375. This band also features a personalisation on the reverse, reading \'With sincere gratitude, Mr & Mrs Shaw & Baby\'.
I have fully restored the pen, fitted it with a new ink sac, and it works perfectly.
This pen is set apart from other 52s by its incredible 14ct gold \'wet noodle\' flex nib,and is capable of producing really broad lines when some pressure is applied on the downstroke. It is a very smooth writer, and feels very soft when flexed. It can also easily be used like a regular pen when the nib is not flexed.
The nib is engraved:WATERMAN\'SIDEALREG. U.S.PAT. OFF2MADE INU.S.A.
Unless the nib is removed though, the \'Made in U.S.A.\' is not visible.
The pen is free from any deep scratches, chips, cracks, teeth marks or other damage. The only thing that might be worth mentioning is that the lever is a little bit stiff. It does not effect the functionality of the pen though, and it functions flawlessly.

The writing sample was produced using the pen filled with Diamine \'eau de nil\' ink on a Rhodia pad. Please note that there may be slight traces of inkseenin the pictures ofthe pen - I will thoroughly clean it before posting it.
