A CLASSIC WATERMAN 52 PEN WITH HALLMARKED 9CT GOLD BAND AND A SUPERB SUPERFINE FLEX NIB
This is a fine early example of these iconic high quality vintage pens from Watermans.There are no cracks, chips, chew marks or discernible scratches. The lower of thetwo gold bands bears a London hallmark ( a lower case gothic \'g\' ) for 1922.The gold plating to the filling lever and the \'IDEAL\' Waterman accommodationclip is in good order with little sign of any wear. The cap screws smoothlyand snugly to the barrel and also posts well. The BHR body of the penhas faded somewhat to a uniform dark chocolate brown but this is,of course, quite normal for pens of this age and material. Theoverall condition can be seen from the high res photographs.
The 14ct gold IDEAL No2 nib has a superfine tip and quite a lotof flex. It can create a width of script that will vary froma near needlepoint 0.25 mm, on the side stroke, up to adouble broad 1.6 mm, on the down stroke, with flexapplied. As it has been correctly set and alsosmoothed it glides across the page, is a joyto use, and is able to produce some verypleasingly elegant writing with a a good deal of variability.
Having been fully serviced this high quality vintagefountain pen, from one of the very best of makers,can be relied on to give trouble free use toits proud new owner.
