This is a child\'s nursery plate made in England by Wedgwood for theAmerican market. The plate is transfer printed in sepia brown and decorated withWedgwood country blue enamel, measuring 7 inchesin diameter. The pieces featurerandom letters of the alphabet and Ravilious\' whimsical illustrations for eachletter.

The plate is a limited re-productionof the original piece designedby Eric Ravilious for Wedgwood in 1937. Ravilious was a painter, designer, bookillustrator and wood engraver. He was Great Britain\'s official war artist until1942 when hedied at theage of 39 while accompanyingaRoyal Air Forceair sea rescue mission offIceland. His art ishighly sought after. Wedgwood stopped producing his Alphabet designsafter his death, except for occasional reproductions by special commission. Inthis case,this plateis \'new old stock\' from a limitednumberof sets commissioned for the American market byMarthaStewart in2001.The plate is true to the original Ravilious design. These winsomeABC sets, from any production, have become quite scarce.

This plate has never been used and is in pristine condition. We also havethis set available in peachy pink.
