Please read the description carefully, examine the pics closely as they are part of the description, and ask any questions before buying!Up for sale is an original book published (undated but 1924 original inscription inside the front cover) by the Review and Herald Publishing Association entitled \"Will the Old Book Stand?,\" which is a collection of different subjects by H. L. Hastings which originally appeared in Anti-Infidel Library tracts and other writings. This book is in about good condition or so. There\'s some wear and tear, shelf and edge wear, soiling. Binding is well attached, rear hinge paper is splitting and showing webbing. There are several pencil marks throughout as pictured, no dog ears, bad odors, loose pages, water damage, etc. This would look nice sitting in any library, and would make a great gift, or a nice addition to your collection. I would ask you to see the pics to get a good idea of it\'s condition, and I would be happy to answer any and all questions, or provide more pictures if needed. I am not a book grader, so see the pics, and you be the judge! Measures about 8-1/8\" x 5-7/8\" x 1-1/8\", and has 349 pages. For the Watchtower Collector: PLEASE take the time to read all of the following! First of all, what does the \"Watchtower Related\" mean? Many sellers here on use this term. To me, it refers to any works at any time that the WTB&TS may have referenced, possibly made available or advertised many years ago in similar forms, that JW\'s or original Bible students may have written or published, and things of that nature. Not necessarily produced or even made available by the Society, but may in some meaningful way relate to Watchtower history and heritage. There are hundreds of such items, if not more. Truly it is up to each person to decide for themselves if any addition to their personal library brings benefit to them. This book was not made nor distributed by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society...so how is it of interest? Please note from the book Watchtower Publications Valuation Guide by Stan Milosevic, 2005 edition: \"1883 The Inspiration of the Bible by Hastings, H.L.\"The full text of the speech by H.L. Hastings printed in Zion\'s Watch Tower in 1883. Horace Lorenzo Hastings was an associate of George Storrs and publisher for Henry Grew and Nelson Barbour. He also knew of the Wendell Brothers, Rufus and Jonas. His writings were immensely influential in the development of brother Russell\'s views and on the format and design of some Watchtower publications such as Old Theology Quarterly and Daily Heavenly Manna. He is mentionedin early issues of Zion\'s Watch Tower.

His father, Elder King Hastings, was \"an early Millerite of some modest prominence.\" He began his own ministry at age seventeen. In 1852 H.L. Hastings joined the staff of The Second Advent Watchman. This began a career of writing, and publishing.

Hastings was a proponent of \"restitution\" or the restoration of a paradise earth. As did most in that era, he believed \"this world is destined to be melted and purified by fire.\" Nevertheless, he taught that \"the earth is to be restored...and made glorious by the power of God.\" [Hastings: Plain Truths for Plain People, 1894 edition, pages 10-11.] **(Please note that this is included in this book, see pics #9 and 12.)** To promote restoration views, in the 1860s he wrote the tract The Three Worlds or Earth\'s Past, Present and Future. This tract is advertised on the back of Barbour\'s Midnight Cry booklet (2nd edition), and provided the inspiration for the title of Barbour and Russell\'s Three Worlds **(Please note that this (by Hastings of course) is included in this book, see pics #9 and 11.)**.

Hastings was persuaded by Storrs\' Three Letters tract and Six Sermons book to accept the Bible\'s teaching on the state of the dead. In 1853 and 1855 he published two important pamphlets on the subject which were later bound together as a book. A comparison of Russell\'s writings on the subject and these booklets shows Russell was familiar with Hastings\' writings. Russell also uses material from Hastings\' books on the last days, consecration, and the Bible\'s message of hope.

When the expectations promoted by Thurmon failed in 1869, those associated with The Worlds Crisis were shaken. (Thurmon is mentioned in To Readers of the Herald of the Morning, Supplement to Zion\'s Watch Tower, Volume 1, Number 1, July 1879. His book is rare but significant to Watch Tower history.) Nelson Barbour wrote his Midnight Cry booklet in response to this disappointment, and Hastings published it. As a result of the disappointment following 1873, Hastings started drifting towards independence from the Advent Christian Church. By the 1880s he was actively promoting the anti-infidel cause and was no longer associated with the AC Church.

In 1882 he spoke to the Sixteenth Annual Convention of the Massachusetts YMCA at Spencer, Massachusetts. Russell arranged to publish extracts of Hastings\' speech in Zion\'s Watch Tower (March 1883, reprints page 458.) Hastings self-published the speech (in it\'s entirety) in this booklet.\"\"

From my own personal research (Brad with HawkToyz), H.L. Hastings is quoted or referred to numerous times in Zion\'s Watch Tower, particularly in the 1880s and 1890s. The September, 1890 Watch Tower (reprints page 1239) mentions him as a contributor to the book \"Poems and Hymns of Dawn\", published by the International Bible Students Association. An interesting, rare book to add to any Theocratic library.
