1940 Hamilton Pocket Watch
This watch belonged to my father who was in the Coast Guard during WWII.
Notations on the movement include:
Hamilton Watch Co. U.S.A.
4992B
22 Jewels
U.S. Govt.
Adj. Temp.
And 6 Positions
4030537 (I think this is the serial number)
On the back cover:
AN5740
Mfr\'s Part No. 4992B
Serial No. AF42-16027
Contract No. W535ac-28072
On the inside of the cover:
Keystone
[symbol]
Base Metal
557559
Condition: Under a magnifying glass, I can see a few light scratches on the crystal, otherwise these are not apparent. The back case also has some light surface scratches. On the movement, the screw to the left of the word HAMILTON (see photo) is threaded, but does not screw into the hole -- it is just sitting there. The screw head is slightly larger than the others and rounded instead of flat -- it looks like it might be a replacement screw that doesn\'t really fit.
I wound the watch just enough to see that it runs. I don\'t know how well it keeps accurate time.
After reviewing the photos posted, an member wrote to let me know the following:
Including the incorrect screw that you mentioned, it also does not have the right hands for the time period. One of the jewel setting cups is not correct, in that it came from a standard 992 movement.
I don\'t know anything about pocket watches, but if you are specific with your questions I\'ll try my best to answer them. I can also provide additional photos on request.
I will ship to a U.S. address only, so no international offers, please.
