very early , I believe this to be from the arsenal that made them prior to 1923 but not positive. nonetheless it was stillin service during ww2. japan arisaka type 30 bayonet for carcano 6.5mm type 1 and older 6.5 type 30 of which these share the namesake. several hundred bayonet were made from various arsenals. this one I believe to be an very early Tokyo hohei kosho. overall length is about 19 7/8\", blade is 15 1/2\". some rusting , pitting discoloration and worn handles . PLEASE review all 12 pictures using zoom and ask any questions you might have. the muzzle ring is 18mm for accomadating the barrels, the lug lock works fine, it has a full legth fuller (blood groove) , grips are contoured 2 piece screw retained, hilt end birds head contoured pommel, hooke quillon guard, ricasso bears the 4 cannonballs and below the muzzle ring there is a Katakana? symbol. this piece has the rare serial number position being on the tang (177791) instead of the rear pommel position. there is a slightly more worn spot on blade shown in picture with white dot, kind of in spot someone would do a lot of chopping with? the ball tipped cabbared is dented and what not but still has a good spring it just take a little more umph to get it in, but holds it very well. thanks for looking and check out my other items. N.M. residents must pay sales tax. thanks shipping to lower 48 continental u.s. only. must be 18 years to purchase this historical collectible
