Thisisascarceoriginal First WorldWar British letter, written inearly 1917 by a soldier in the 8th Battalion of the King's Royal Rifle Corps who was killed in action near Ypres in December 1917. This soldier was hospitalized in England in early 1917. He wrote this letter to thanka nurse who had cared for him at that time.

*** This scarce original 2 page letter was written by R/17092 Rifleman George Robinson,8thBattalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Rifleman Robinson was killed in action in Flanders on the 3rd of December, 1917. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

This 2 page letter was written to a nurse in Ireland. Rifleman Robinsonhad been evacuatedfrom France,and beencared for in ahospital in Ireland by the nurse to whom he wrote this letter. The content is emotional. Rifleman Robinson wrote it shortly before returning to the Front. When he wrote it he did not yet know if he would be sent back to the Front, or allowed to remain in England on Home Service.

There is content about Rifleman Robinson's hospitalization, and also about some of his friends from the hospital. He writes of onepatient who had been returned to the front in France, and another who had been discharged from the army:

"Poor old Percy, out to the Front again. I can see his dark eyes flashing... I am very sorry I am going away without having a talk to you again. Well Dear Nurse, I will let you know whether I get Home Service or Active Service. Well, good bye Dear Nurse, you have been very good to us all, for which I thank you."

There is additional interesting and emotional content.

Rifleman Robinson was sent back to the Front a short time later, and was killed in action later in 1917.
