Offered is an outstanding antique portrait cameo brooch pendant engraved in hardstone agate. This portrait is most likely that of Queen Victoria, as I have studied pictures of her and the quality of this carving most definitely seems to indicate that she is the subject. There is even the slightest bump at the bridge of her nose. This piece is a museum quality likeness with extreme detailing that certainly took one of the best master craftsman. The cameo is made of of one piece of stone, using banded layers. This cameo is then mounted in a scalloped cut agate slab set with lustrous ocean pearls. It is encased in a substantial 14k gold casing. It is fitted with the original c clasp and t bar, with a nice sized swiveling bale for use as a pendant as well as a brooch. This piece is outstanding for it\'s subject, a Queen who in mourning set a fashion standard for black jewelry during the later part of her reign, it\'s rarity in construction, and the fact that ocean pearls at this time were very expensive due to their need to be harvested by divers, unlike the commoner freshwater pearls. This is a high quality piece that was created for a lady that moved in the first circles back in the day. This piece is in excellent, almost mint antique condition with no damage. It measures 2\" tall (not including the bale) by 1 1/2\" by 1/2\" thick. No nicks, cracks, scratches. A highly desirable piece for the serious collector.
