Cannas are relatively easy to carefor, thriving in almost any well-drained soil. These vigorous growers andfloriferous bloomers do need to \"eat\" a lot, however. Be sure to givethem plenty of sun, lots of water, and regular fertilizing. Cannas are perennialin Zones 8-11. However, cooler zones can also enjoy these beautiful flowers, asthe rhizomes are suitable to plant in zones 5-7 as well(zone 4 is iffy .-the soil must warm up to at least 65-70 degrees for most cannas to do well). Inthese cooler zones,the rhizomes may be dug in the fall, stored inside for thewinter, then divided and replanted the following spring. Or, if planted in acontainer, just store the container in an area that won’t freeze for thewinter.

While Canna Lilies enjoy more water than many other plants, theyshould never sit in standing water or soggy soil. Cannas havetropicalorigins, so they love the sun and the warmth.Do not plantrhizomes until the soil has warmed to at least 65 degrees(or startindoors if preferred), and plant them in the sunniest location available. SinceCanna Lilies multiply readily, when planting rhizomes, leave plenty of spacebetween them ~ you will see many more stalks appear from each one as the summerprogresses. Plant the rhizomes no more than 1\"-2\" deep, leaving atleast 12\" between them.
