Here is a York Couturier Wizard Model long cornet made in Grand Rapids, MI in 1912. The serial number is 40775. The patent for this instrument dates to September 23, 1913. This horn was probably made while Mr. Couturier was stillSuperintendentof the York & Sons company. It was designed by Couturier and served as a prototype for his continuous conical bore line of instruments which he manufactured a few years later.
This horn is a complete set and all original. The silver plating is in good condition, but does have some missing spots where the players hand touched the instrument, as shown in the photos. It is in good playing condition and all valves and slides move freely. It has a few minor dents in the tubing. It may have been considered a high quality instrument due to the gold was bell, gold plate accents around the engraving on the bell and the mother of pearl finger buttons. It also has a quick change rotary valve. It can play in A and B-flat or in B-flat and C with the additional set of tuning slides. It also comes with the original lyre, cleaning rod and unmarked mouthpiece. It has the original case, which is in excellent condition given its age (the only flaw is the deteriorating original handle and some light wear on the exterior leather). Please have a look at the photos. Thanks for your interest!
