Here\'s one for the serious radio enthusiast / collector. All the bells and whistles you would expect from this time period (1938), and the pinnacle of technology for it\'s day (other than a 1000Z Stratosphere!) Without a doubt, this model is becoming very difficult to find, especially in this condition.
For Sale here is a Museum Quality 1938 Zenith console Radio model12-S-265. It is Fully Restored and Refinished.
The 12 tube chassis has been Fully Restored with all new capacitors. The Resistors were replaced as needed. All tubes were tested for top performance. Wires where insulation was questionableor starting to harden were also replaced. The chassis is extremely clean and has no rust or damage. Drive belts for the Robot Dial have been replaced. The shutter mechanism was fully disassembled, cleaned, adjusted, and reassembled for factory new operation. The original tuning eye for this radio would have been a rare 6TF. It has been replaced with a 6G5 which operates electrically the same as the 6T5, however it displays differently. This should not be considered an uncommon compromise given the rarity of the 6T5 (upwards of $250.00 if you can find one). The 6T5 opens and closes as a circular target whereas the 6G5 opens and closes as a pie shape. The 6T5 was only produced for the 1938 model year which would explain it\'s rarity.
The finish is a beautiful finish of multiple coats of lacquer as it was originally. The grille cloth is original and in mint condition. The knobs are the original \"Z\" knobs and are in excellent condition. The large \"Acoustic Adaptor Speaker\" allows for manual adjustment of BASS responseby pushing the cover that\'s over the speaker in or out as you choose.The speaker is original and in perfect condition (no repairs done). The sound from this set is bold and crisp. No rattles or hum
This is one of the Larger Black Dial Zenith models. This dial is called a \"Shutter Dial\". It has three wave bands: broadcast (AM), short wave, and police. It\'s called a shutter dial because as you choose between AM / SW / police band the dial actually changes to show three separate dials (all mint). The tuning can be accomplished the normal way by turning the tuning knob to your station of choice but also on this radio it has an option called \"split second tuning\". This is a Motorized Tuning Method. You can turn and hold the tuning knob and it has a motor that spins the dial indicator for you at a high rate of speed to get from one end of the dial to the other very quickly.
This radio was completely restored approximately 2 years ago. It has been one of the major centerpieces of our display room. It gets played almost on a daily basis and has been incredibly reliable.
