SMS Planet was a German hydrographic

ship built for the Imperial Navy in 1905

at Weserwerft, Bremen. She was scuttled

by her crew on the 7th of October 1914 to

revent capture from the Japanese, off

Yap Island. With her remains, a weather

station was built on the island.

Yap Island was a major German naval

communications center before the First

World War .
