- Here is a very interesting antique artifact - a wooden headrest or pillow, known as Taka-Makura
- Used to support the head raised during sleep, most often by Geishas to protect their intricate hairstyle
- During training, young Geishas underwent rigorous training to avoid their hair touching the ground during sleep - wet rice would be spread on the floor around the Taka-Makura pillow by the elders, and would stick to their hair if it comes into contact
- All handcrafted from native fruit-wood
- Note the all-wood joints - no adhesive or fasteners and nails used!
- All original
