this is a very collectible piece of early brown transfer ware from the Burslem pottery of Henry Doulton. It is marked with a brown \"ribbon\" mark showing the pottery, town and pattern The design number is also incised and hard to decipher. It is most probably 12 \"86\", but I am quite unsure of this. Scans of the incised underglase markings are visible. This earthenware plate was probably made between 1882 (when the name \"Doulton\" was first used) and 1891 (When \"England\" was first added to incised mark. This brown transfer features a far more elegant design with a more \"modern\" artistic rendering than most pieces of this type at that time. The pattern name Assouma isrendered clearly. This simple but elegant and very pretty decorative piece is in excellent condition, with no damage of any kind that I can see.IT IS NOT CHIPPED AND not CRACKED) and the usual overall crazing . This scalloped plate measures about 9.5 inches in diameter. This is a fine piece of early Doulton earthenware
