Missing the two scent bottles, flasks, flacon, that would have filled it, this is a splendid and early etui or scent caddy in its own right. You might well have flasks that will fit it, or love it enough to take it on as a project for your next visit to Paris and sidewalk markets - such fun! This item dates to Marie-Antoinette era, c.1770s, not later than c.1800. A veneer or hand worked mother of pearl that is incised and inlaid with silver and gold foil. The gold foil does test 18k, is incomplete, particularly on one side as you can see. But there you have the crossed torches, fountain and bird, laurel leaf decorative inlays that thrill us all. Rare to find complete, but always fun as a project piece. You can find the small very old scent bottles here and there. You just need to take this with you so you can fit the 2 compartments within just right. I always forget and leave it home.
Good to very good condition, missing the 2 scent flasks that would have originally been inside. Also there\'s a bit of the old silver and gold foil lost to time. Our photos show you all. These are so old, almost always have lost some of that foil. The mother of pearl is beautifully pearlescent in shimmers of color that just don\'t show up with photographer\'s lighting. A lovely old one! Measurements are noted on the photos. It is 2 3/4\" x 1 7/8\" and is 3/4\" in depth.

Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
