Offering an exceptional 1845 - 1850\'s lady\'s gown green - silver striped chine/ikat silk taffeta gown, with flared pagoda sleeves, and mostly hand sewn with some machine sewn areas. One piece in construction. Decorated with lovely green and silver trim with green raised chenille balls. Also decorated on upper sleeve with 6 interesting dangling chenille tassels.


Recently de-accessioned from the Rochester Historical Society Museum collection in New York state. The gown still retains it\'s original Museum ID catalog identification tag, sewn inside label, as well as string tags with donor\'s name written on tag.

Provenance: Donor Mrs. F.W. Golen and worn by Lilliz Thompson.

Thebodice is piped at back seams, and at waistline, waistline is gathered with cartilage pleating, all hand sewn. The gown is lined with brownpolished cotton in skirt and white cotton on bodice.Gown has original fronthook andloopclosures sewn in material closure. Buttons are missing in front closure. Inside bodice has 7 whale baleen stays. The long arms are flared with pagoda sleeves and ruched area and sleeves are lined with a creamed white satin.

There is no underarmdiscoloration stains on outside but can be seen on cotton lining. Many splits in the fabric on both armscyes, bodice and body of skirt. Buttons are missing in front closure. Newer lining in bodice. Museum conservationists have stabilized fabric with a fine tulle netting around neckline, back shoulders, front opening, upper sleeve, and underarm area.


MEASUREMENTS:

Bust34\", Waist 33\", Sleeve length 15\", Length from shoulder to front hem 56\", Shoulders across back 14-1/2\", Width circumference at hem line 150\".

The gown is in fair/poor antique condition for study or display only. The gown is not wearable. A beautifuldisplay gown.

A superb hard to come by dress of 171+ years of graceful life.

This is a wonderful piece to add to an early collection.
