ITEM: ANTIQUE CHINESE PAINTING ON WOOD OF BUDDHAand FENGHUANG

This sale is for anoriginal antique painting on wood, depicting Buddha riding on the back of Fenghuang (the Chinese Phoenix), pursuing the pearl of wisdom and truth. The Buddha is holding an incense burner with a yin and yang on it and has thewheel of dharma image on each sole.The picture seems to be concerned with duality and balance.

I believe the frame that it is in was added later as the painting is of a completely different quality, but includes the endless knot symbol.

SIZE:Including the frame it is approximately 31cm across.

ERA:I was told it is 19th century.

REGION: It is from China, possibly the Gansu Province.

CONDITION:There is damage to one edge, particularly on the frame. There are also a few small chips, etc. on the main section of the painting. Overall, it is in very good condition for its age and beautifully painted. Please see the photographs for details.
