IMPERIAL RUSSIA ICON WITH MARKED SOLID SILVER RIZZA (MOSCOW) – C.1840

Description:
Gorgeous c.1840 icon of the Virgin with the Child, painted with warm colours and great delicacy in the shading of the carnations. The wooden icon has been enhanced with a gilt solid silver rizza, marked in Moscow for both the assayer (Andreì Antonovich Kovalbskii?) and silversmith (Futikin? Fedotov? Please, see the attached pictures for the illustration of the marks). Excellent and highly collectable piece.
