Rare Civil War era leatherbound imprinted American tune book, being the first edition, and being aimed at younger singers. Contains a concise introduction to reading practical music, followed by a collection of psalm tunes, hymns and anthem pieces, with pieces aimed at younger audiences. Includes popular tunes, amongst which are Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and an early print appearance of Dixie (given as Dixie\'s Land) by Dan Emmett (and attributed to him) on pages 200-201. Originating in blackface minstrelsy in the 1850s, the song became the unofficial anthem of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Bound in thick oblong blue illustrated paper over boards,w/ a leather spine. Some minor wear to the extremities; upper board\'s lower corner with light loss. Binding and hinges solid. Pages with some minor soiling, browning and related age wear, in good shape inside and out. Measures 5.5\" x 7\". Good luck!
