No date to title page, dated from Copac.

Withcolourillustrated plates and several uncolouredvignettes.

This illustrated edition has a few lines of text per page for easy reading.

Scarce in this VERY GOOD condition.

The Diverting History of John Gilpin is a comic ballad written by William Cowper about a wealthy draper named John Gilpin who rides a runaway horse. Cowper heard the story from Lady Austen whilst he was suffering from severe depression, and the story cheered him up so much that he decided to put it into verse.

Caldecottwas an English artist and illustrator born in Chester. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honour. His ability as an artist were generously recognised by the Royal Academy.He created a range of 16 picture books including The House that Jack BuiltandSing a Song a Sixpence.

CONDITION

In original paper wraps. Externally, smart with handling marks to wraps. Some bumping to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD.
