Very rare and original, ca1890 American Majolica Advertising Plate / Charger / Advertising Sign for \"Rose Leaf Fine Cut Tobacco\".

This fantastic, round, Porcelain / Pottery Majolica Advertising Plate measures approx. 8 3/4\" in diameter and features molded and color glazed advertising text that reads \"Chew Rose Leaf Fine Cut\". There is also delicate, applied porcelain flower and leaf decorations that appear almost \"capodimonte\" in form. The Plate features a bright, tin glaze as seen on pieces of Majolica.

The Plate carries the three sided mark on the back of D. F. Haynes & Company, Chesapeake Pottery Works of Baltimore, Maryland. There are four small cast holes in the raised foot of the Plate that would allow it to be hung on a wall as an Advertising Sign in a Cigar Shop or Tobacconist Shop. There is also a paper label affixed to the back of the plate with a manuscript note stating that the Plate was purchased at a Maryland Advertising Show in 1995 for $450.

This very rare and fascinating ca1890 Majolica Rose Leaf Chewing Tobacco Advertising Plate is in good to very good condition. While the underlying plate portion of the piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or damage of any kind, the delicate, applied flower and leaf decoration has some significant lass and chipping to the leaves, rose petals and the flower branches. While the Plate does display nicely there is significant loss to this applied decoration.
