Ca1905 Beautiful Mahogany Hand Held Stereoscope Stereoviewer "unis-france" For Sale

Very Rare and beautiful, ca1905 Unis-France hand held, mahogany Stereoviewer / Stereoscope. This outstanding and exceptionally well made, hand held Viewer measures approx. 4 1/2" long overall and 5” by 3” at the backend. It is expertly crafted of a beautiful, flame grain mahogany and retains its brilliant, original French Polish finish. It features bakelite lens rings and a metal, rack-and-pinion mechanism telescoping binocular-style lens adjustment that allows the lens mounts to move in and out of the case smoothly.

There is a metal, stamped manufacturer's plate above the lenses which reads "Unis-Paris / Stereoscopes - Mattey, Paris" and includes what appears to be a Model designation that reads "76 / 3". We are not familiar with this type of European Stereoscope but the design is somewhat similar to the early Brewster Viewers. The Viewer offered here was used to view very early 20th century, glass stereoviews (we believe the size would be 2 1/4" by 5").

We have included a number of scans below to give a good indication of the beauty and the form of this outstanding Stereoscope.

This rare and very beautiful, Unis-France Stereo Viewer is in excellent condition - sound and intact with optics in perfect condition. The viewer retains its original surface finish and has never been refinished, repaired, restored, or altered in any way. The frosted glass panel is intact and original and we can honestly say that this viewer is as “original” as any we have come across. The rack and pinion focusing mechanism is in excellent working condition. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the construction and condition of this wonderful 100+ years old Stereoscope.
