1966 Gretsch Corvette single pickup solid body electric guitar relic project.
I picked this up at a estate sale around 10 years ago.According to the lady I bought it from, she said her husband had took it apart torefinishthe body and passed away before he got much done to it,but evidently he did not do anything to the neck as it still has the original finish.I recently pulled this out of closet hibernation (10+ yrs), carried it to the local guitar shop. They sent the pickup to Smit\'s in Tenn. where it was rewound, (over-wound ) magnet re-energized and sounds amazing now.They also installed new Gretsch CTS 500k pots, tone cap, vintage metal shielded wiring and switch craft input. The 1966 electronics are included but I have no idea if they work.The tech said the truss rod works as should, the Burns tremolo works as should, and still has the Gretsch labeled whammy bar. The tech set the action low and it plays really good.On the cosmetics you can see where the finish on the body has mostly been removed or fell off due to age? What\'s left of the finish on the body and neck has crackled, checked and crazed.The pick guard is painted black & solid brass, the tech said it was probably non original and there is 3 different truss covers included, the tech said one was the original and the other 2 are probablyaftermarket from years ago. The finger board has some scratches and nicks but it does not affect theplay ability.The hardware has tarnished and pitted, but a buffing or polish might help them out?It includes the original Gretsch hard case, which has the Gretsch tolex wrap that was used also on the Gretsch amps in the 60\'s.The case has 5 latches and all work as should, the case interior has some wear where the whammy bar has rubbed the top of the case..Selling this as a project or parts guitar since it needs a refinish, has somescratches, dings etc.Plays and sounds great just as it is, (just spent over $200 on it at the guitar shop) or restore it to your preference.
