When I first bought this brooch I thought it was a Nye piece, he is known for his repousse work depicting wildflowers, and especially the dogwood series. It is not signed by him however, and carries a quite primitive HANDMADE stamp, as well as the Sterling hallmark, placed on the back of the flower.

The repousse dogwood blossom is well made, but perhaps made in thicker silver than Nye used, which, of course is more difficult as repousse is laying the silver on a bed of hot pitch, and beating the shapes and pattern into the silver from the back. The thinner the silver, the easier it is to achieve the required shapes and textures, not that repousse is ever an easy technique to master.

The blossom is framed in quite a heavy curved setting which has retained the original shape and quality over many decades of wear. The pin is secure and working well, in fact the whole brooch has obviously been well looked after and is in lovely condition. It weighs just over 6 grams and measures 50 cms long (or 2 inches) and is 20 cms wide (or 7/8 of an inch).

The ringbox pictured is not included in the sale but your purchase will be well packed for transit. As I live out of town there may be a few days delay in posting your parcel. It will always be as soon as is possible. As I use recycled packaging, I charge only Australia Post charges for postage, the first option includes tracking and the second option insurance and tracking.
