The Hand-Colored Art for a Charlton Horror Cover!

This sale Includes:
Ghost Manor #73Original Hand-Colored Cover ArtTHE ORIGINALCOVER PAINTINGFROM LATE 1983 OR VERY EARLY 1984, NOT A MERE PRINT OR REPRODUCTION OR HOMAGE!Look At The Ornately Detailed Color, All Applied By Hand On This Showpiece. Mr. Bones And A Menagerie Of Hideous Monstrosities Have Gathered To Welcome The Reader! Great Horror-Host And Monsters Cover By Pat Boyette, Perfect To Promote The Related Mr. BonesIntro Lead Story By Boyette Titled "Who's Staying In The Secret Room"."Visit GHOST MANOR, if you dare"! CLASSIC BOYETTE, THIS WAS ORIGINALLY FEATURED AS THE COVER TO THE VERY FIRST ISSUE, AND THEN IT WAS RE-COLORED, AND RE-USED, AS THE COVER TO ISSUE #73! This piece wasbeautifully rendered, and would be ideal to frame andhang on a wall, shelf, or desk; A conversation piece of the highest order.(You could pick up a copy of the old comic book, to display along with it!) The incredible attention to detail becomes apparent when it's viewed in person.Interesting supernatural-themed piece. A color guide would often merely have enough of the color, splashed in a haphazard fashionin a particular area, to show the printer what color to use where. This one has a lot of attention to detail, as if the colorist took pride in his work and wanted it to be display-worthy; it's mixed media, including colored pencil and/or watercolor, conte, pastels, etc. See the photographs, which don't do it justice. It is taller than most, and notes about coloration are hand written in the right margin. I took one picture of it standing next to a random comic-book, for scale, but no comics are included with this sale.Issues of this cult-classic title weren't always done by someone this adept, such as the legendary Boyette, who handled the pencils and inks on this particular cover, which were xeroxedonto art paperso they could belavishly colored by hand, creating this unique work. This actual item was submitted by Charlton Comics to the printer, probably in late 1983, to produce the front cover to thepopularcomic-book, which was cover-dated March, 1984.This gorgeous artwork is a perfect addition to anybody's art collection, and is more awesome than the famous comic cover that it produced... It is quite striking! This would be a great addition to any collection ofcomic-art or ghost ephemera or the Horror Comic fan's collection... --'Nuff said! Some of you have read about similar cover production art in C.B.M. and/or C.B.G.
(Comic Book Marketplace #85 or Comics Buyer's Guide #'s 1399, 1402, 1414, etc.)We are secure packagers and prompt shippers so expect to be pleased.Back in the "good ole days",most publishersnormally burned ordiscarded such production art once the comic went to print. However, about 25 years agoI was able to obtain some prime examples of Charlton production art, representing this crucial artistic step of the comics' cover-making process! This is the actual Hand-Colored Cover Art for the fan-favorite comic. It was colored in mixed media; Only one such showpiece was created per cover...Additional pieces can now be found by checking the other Key Comics items. Buy aggressively, as such items are truly one-of-a-kind, and Charlton cover production pieces as a whole are notoriously rare. Hand-colored Bronze-Age Covers are exceedingly rare in the market, and very impressive, as you can see subtle nuances and color variations, in some cases desired by the creator, which never make it to the final product... They are significantly larger than comic-size, at about 8.5" wide and a bit over a foot tall. Because they were part of the original raw artistic process, they can include tack-holes, pasteovers, tape, indentations from a paper clip, tears, staple-holes, white-out, and/or edge wear. Although it has significant creasing, it still looks nice, and must be seen in person to be appreciated.Bone-white whites and nice rich colors, obviously very well preserved for posterity! This is a must-have piece for any fan of ultra-rare original art, or for thesupernatural comic & art collector, or the serious haunted house memorabilia buff, or just theart fan who doesn't have four-figure$ to drop on a period b/w cover but still enjoys owning true rarities ~ to keep himself satisfied visually, while keeping his portfolio diversified in a most dramatic fashion! As Usual: LOWBUY IT NOWAND !
