This is an amazing teapot! It was handpainted and the detail on it is so intricate that she must have used a brush the width of the size of a single piece of hair. It has so many things going on - a cat weating a kimona, carrying an umbrella with an Asian scene painted on it and 2 monkeys who are playing with green apples and trying to trick a Russian lady. This piece was commissioned in 2004. Wonderful cat figural face porcelain teapot is a true folk art piece, beautifully handcrafted and painted with great detailing, signed by renowned artist Irina Zaytceva; circa 2004; approximate size: 11" high x 5” x 6”. Irina Zaytceva was born in Moscow, Russia. She graduated from the prestigious Moscow Art Institute in 1982 with a B.A. and M.F.A. in book illustration. Having illustrated a number of children's books, Irina found that her love for sculpting offered a wider range of expressing her artistic views. Porcelain had a particular attraction for her for all its historical importance, as well as the finer grain it offered as opposed to other ceramics. Irina developed several unique techniques never been used before, setting fewer limits to her creativity. Her ceramic sculptures can be seen in numerous museums in the United States as well as abroad, most notably at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. All of Irina's works.
