This daguerreotype features an elderly man that is missing both of his arms. He has a prosthetic that is being used to turn a page in his book. Its been pointed out to me that this his name was actually Jabez Luther (1776-1854) and he actually lost his hand in Warren, Rhode Island from a premature discharge of a cannon while celebrating the Fourth of July. He made is own prosthetic. (see pictures 4 and 5).
The 1/6 plate was resealedwith new glass and the case measures about 3.25 x 3.75 inches.
