This Woody Concept art is a veritable piece of Pixar history. This is an original, immensely-rare drawing of Woody, the main character from Pixar's debut feature film, Toy Story. Toy Story was historic in the fields of animation and technology. It was the first ever entirely computer animated feature film, and it was the first feature film produced by Pixar. Toy Story earned three Academy Award nominations, as well as winning a Special Achievement Academy Award and eight Annie Awards. The film has been preserved in the Library of Congress's National Film Registry for its many contributions to film history. This rare original drawing features Woody laying on Andy's bed from the opening scene at the 4:12 mark of Toy Story (shortly after the credits) as he realizes it is Andy's birthday. What makes this art more special is its been identified being drawn by storyboard artist and Woody Co-Creator Joe Ranft (1960 - 2005), also making this one of the earliest Woody drawings ever produced, or Pixar art ever produced. There is virtually no Toy Story art that has reached the marketplace, let alone from a known co-creator of the lead character from the beginning of the film. We cannot express how incredibly important and rare this art is to the Toy Story / Pixar franchise as well as the overall animation genre.

The character image measures 4" x 4" and is rendered in graphite. If you are a fan of Woody, Toy Story and Pixar, this historic piece is a must-have. The rare piece is in a 15.5" x 13.5" frame under glass. Woody has a mat opening of 8" x 5", the art shows minor handling and condition is very good.

Joe Ranft who worked with John Lasseter in the past was hired by Pixar in 1991 as their head of story. There he worked on all of their films produced up to 2006; this included being the co-creator of Woody and Buzz, as well as story supervisor for Toy Story (for which he received an Academy Award nomination) and A Bug's Life, as the co-story writer and others as story supervisor. He was posthumously honored in 2006 as a Disney Legend and in 2016 with the Winsor McCay Award, the lifetime achievement award for animators.
