Teddy Roosevelt president of United States 1901-1909 has become a folk hero as a leader of famous voluntary regiment known as "Rough Riders" in war against Spain for control of Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. Teddy was responsible for seeing construction of the Panama Canal through completion, making it the second most important canal in the world.
