horsehair Hitched Cane American Flag Shield Lenny Spurlock Deer Lodge Mt Cowboy:
Offered is a very fine one of a kind horsehair hitch cane hitched by Lenny Spurlock. Here is a little of the story on how this wonderful hitched cane came about: back in the year 1995, I bought a whale bone cane from a veterinarian who lived in the Kent area in the state of Washington. Years later, in 1998 I had the pleasure of meeting a man that was a great scrimshaw artist who lived in Lewiston, Idaho. I commissioned him to scrimshaw an eagle over an American shield. The words "LIBERTY AND FREEDOM" were inscribed below the shield. The scrimshaw work was beyond perfection and spurred me on to have the cane hitched with horsehair. I was the proud owner of several very nice hitched items, one being a belt that was made and signed by the great hitcher Lenny Spurlock from Deer Lodge, Montana. I contacted Lenny and asked if he would hitch the whale bone cane? He agreed and I gave him an open mind on what to hitch as long as it had some American Flags. Lenny got the cane and so to speak went south!! After a few years had passed I caught up with Lenny and he said that he would get on with the work on the cane. You can read the attached letter from Lenny and it explains this cane and how Lenny felt at that time in reference to 9-11-01. Lenny hitched his thoughts and ideas into this cane. They are his with no input what so ever from me. Back to the cane. It is a hard one to take pictures as the limit is 12. That being said, when a person holds the cane with both hands and rotates it will read "LIBERTY AND FREEDOM IS 9-11-01. The cane is 351/4" in length The buyer will receive the names of the scrimshaw artist as well as my own. If you have any questions, please feel free to call 541-481-2356.
