Antique St. Francis Of Assisi 44" Hand Carved Wood Sculpture 19th Century.

This is a stunning 19th century religious sculpture of St. Francis of Assisi carved from wood. I believe this was carved either in Germanic Europe or by German American Immigrant in from the Midwest. This sculpture has a strong Germanic style in carving and feature.

Provence: Purchased in the 1980s from a Wisconsin Catholic Church.

Condition: This sculpture shows significant paint wear and some damage including scratches, large chips, and dust. The paint is all original and has been black lighted. There is exposed wood were the painting is missing or worn. Some of the paint has a heavy craquelure over the surface from temperature and humidity changes. The right hand fingers are broken off, and the left hand fingers are cracked. Large stabilized and filled crack in right thigh with old repair remnants. The sleeve under the right hand has a chunk missing (photographed).

The hand carved sculpture is in very stable condition with a solid body and stable paint.
