Item: Fantastic Original British Full SizeWWII Military Cross Trio to a POW. ASecond World War 1940 Full Size MC group of three attributed to MajorJessop, Royal Leicestershire Regiment for his actions and bravery in Norway, He was captured and taken prison of war Military Cross, G. VI.R reverseofficiated dated 1945, 1939-45 Star, War Medal 1939-45, mounted as worn, comeswith some history. The M,C. London Gazette 11th October 1945. The original recommendation states on theevening of 22nd April 1940, this officer was ordered to build a roadblock and hold it for four hours two miles north of Oia. Before the task was completed his platooncame under heavy machine gun fire at short range. In spite of casualties, the attackwas repulsed and the positionheld. At the time ordered for hiswithdrawal, the enemy had penetrated both flanks. Through his coolness examplesand fine leadership, he succeeded in re-joining the battalion some eight hourslater. Ian Gray Jessop was commissionedsecond lieutenant in the Royal Leicestershire Regiment on 22nd July1939 and served with them in Norway during the early stages of the Second WorldWar. Captured and taken prisoner of warhe was held in OFlag 7B Prisoner of war camp.Repatriated following the cessation of hostilities he was advanced majoron 2nd July 1952. OFlag 7Bprisoner of war camp also held many of the famous desert rats. Comes with someresearch history. A fine medal set frommy own collection.
