Jesus Christ oil painting on board fine art Religion Easter
Jesus Christ oil painting on board fine art Religion Easter:
I was told this was painted sometime in1945-1946 immediately following WWII by my father, a veteran.Unsigned, although he signed everything else. The painting has spent much of the last 60-70 years in a closet. There is slight lifting/blistering in small areas which is detailed in the photos attached. I recall being told that there was some previous connection to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. I do not know and there is no one living to offer details unfortunately.
I imagine it could use restoration, but considering the subject and the look it has acquired I believe it to be very appealing in it's current state, which looks very different from each angle, different lighting, position of the camera. Interesting. I do not know enough about art to know why it changes appearance.
The painting is done in oil and it is on a piece of old brown board the back of which is coated with an opaque white. It is unsigned.
Holding the painting in front of you really allows you to appreciate the work in my opinion and the opinion of others.
The original faded charcoal/lead pencil sketch on aged tan paper was framed and donated to the Vatican. The letter attached is for authentication purposes only and does not come with the painting as there was a blessing offered to me specifically.
I have searched for oil paintings of this subject for years. This painting stands up to or exceeds the quality of the many varieties of art work previously or currently listed for fantastic prices. This is not "attributed to", damaged, restored, from the school of, none of that nonsense.
