Large stunning Victorian naturalistic extravaganza - Arts and Crafts folk art diorama of a basket cased in glass dome on ebonised stand made up of pine cones, beech nuts, twigs and silk.

The interior of the basket is lined with segmented green silk padded cushions, detailed with raw tufted/freyed edges.

Hand written note on section of period postcard \"Made by M. A. Campbell, Winter 1878\".. Possibly landscape artist Malcolm A. Campbell (Australian/Victoria - visited/exhibited in London), active in the 1870s + 1880s.

In overall very good condition, with everything seemingly intact and in place except one beech nut and small twig that have come loose and lie in the base of the basket together with the note. Some blemishes to the silk as can see. Why not fill the basket with some stone/mineral eggs or a fossil or two..

Glass dome in very good condition with only minor shells/nibbles around base that are not visible as sits on the ebonised base.

A veritable feast of foraged folk art for the eye. A labour of love that must have taken some time to envisage and accomplish..indeed over a Victorian winter in 1878.

19\"/47 cms high - its larger than looks in the photos. Overwhelms a rather large and impressive mantle clock that sits alongside.
