Beginning his circus career in 1914 as an animal trainer, Ben Davenport ran his first no tent “sidewall” circus which he named the Davenport Society Circus from 1935 to 1939. Starting in 1940, Ben Davenport and his wife renamed this circus the “Dailey Bros. Circus”, where they purchased their first elephant, Nemo. The success of the “Dailey Bros. Circus” continued through the 1940’s, peaking at a 15 car railroad show, before closing in 1950.

After this closure, Ben Davenport took out several truck shows, particularly the Wallace Bros. Circus in 1952. This show, from which this promotional poster comes from, crossed The United States visiting countless towns and cities before finishing in Texas at the end of October, 1952. Unfortunately a series of injuries and subsequent lawsuits meant the act was done away with after only 2 years. However this incredible, 4 sheet, one of a kind promotional poster survives.

There are condition issues with this piece as seen in the photos, however, considering it is more than 70 years old and was used on the road it’s unbelievable that it even still exists - and besides, just look at it, it has amazing patina! There is light staining and a small tear, but nothing that affects the quality of the print. Each sheet is framed with museum quality UV protectant glass and the highest quality materials. When it comes to frames, this is as good as it gets.
