This very high quality reference book is quite possibly the first of it\'s kind on the topic . This glossy hardcover book measures just 8.5 X 8.5 inches, but it is very heavy for it\'s size and contains 318 pages of big color photos of some of the most unique collectibles. It is a fascinating look into the culture that sprang up around the space race from the 1960\'s. There are no toys from the 20\'s - 50\'s science fiction type items are displayed in this book. One caveat; it is a very expensive book, if you can get it...The first section covers space themed Christmas ornaments, both in glass and embossed cardboard, as well as the plastic planetary light sets.
The next section covers all the early cosmonaut dolls and figures produced from the early 1960\'s onward; the largest stands 17 inches tall (including the 3 inch antenna, which is always missing). I belive this large baby-doll is a tribute to Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, who, on June 16, 1963, aboard Vostok 6, became the first woman to travel into space.
The third chapter deals with the toy robots, but only discusses about 10 different types.
The rayguns follow the robots, and is the smallest section in the book, only 4 types are shown.
The next chapter covers space vehicles, tanks, and rovers, many with their original boxes.
These are followed by tin wind-up action toys.
The next chapter offers a colorful collection of rockets and space sets, made of wood, tin and plastic.
The next section is dedicated to board games of all types.
