A pair of inlaid ceremonial figures from Zuni pueblo held in private collection of famed Zuni trader, C. G. Wallace and sold at Wallace sale:

A figure of a scalp dancer, composed of turquoise, jet, coral and shell, in a mosaic inlay, fastened on a black phonograph record type of material, then mounted on a silver easel frame. This inlay is the work of a noted Zuni lapidarist, Bruce Zuni. It was held in the private collection of famed Zuni trader, C. G. Wallace, and was sold at the Wallace sale, November 14, 1975. It is illustrated in the Wallace sale catalog, lot # 23. It is 7 3/4” high, and was made about 1945.

And second figure, the Zuni, Katsina Yamuhakto, was also fashioned of a mosaic inlay of turquoise, jet, coral and shell fastened to a metallic backing, probably of aluminum, then mounted on a silver easel frame. This figure was made by Leo Poblano, a renowned Zuni artist, and is illustrated in the Wallace sale catalog, lot # 24. It is 7 3/8” high, and has a date of origin around 1942. This figure was held in the private collection of C. G. Wallace, until sold at a Sotheby’s Parke Benet sale, Nov. 1975.

The sterling silver stands were handmade years ago to accommodate these precious figures to stand up and the stand detaches if need be.
