I've blown this up big enough so that you can see what your buying. 1785 PHILADELPHIA "Revolutionary War Soldiers Pay Document" COUNCIL OF PENN. This is on woven paper and is all original. TO DAVID RITTENHOUSE. From 1779 to 1787 Rittenhouse was Treasurer of Pennsylvania, and from 1792 -1795 he served as director of the United States Mint. A clockmaker by trade, Rittenhouse built mathematical instruments and, it is believed, the first telescope in the United States. He also introduced the use of natural spider webbing to form the reticle (system of cross hairs) in telescope transits and other position-measuring instruments. James Irvine (August 4, 1735 – April 28, 1819) was a Pennsylvania soldier and politician of the Colonial, Revolutionary, and Post-Revolutionary periods. THE SOLDIERS NAME LOOKS TO BE DANIEL WELGAR.
