Up for sale is a historicallyImportant Sterling Hand Made Cartier Cigarette Box initialed G.E.A (George Edward Allen) gifted from President Dwight D. Eisenhower circa 1950's. This box is especially significant because it was the personal property of George E. Allen, Eisenhower's close/best friend and neighbor in Gettysburg PA. It was recently purchased at a major and well publicized estate sale which allows one to track the chain of ownership directly from Eisenhower to George Allen. The box measures about 6" x 3 1/2" wide x 2" tall and is clearly well hallmarked from Cartier as sterling silver. This remarkable item features Allen's initials, G.E.A. on the top lid center. This is a great piece of historical memorabilia which is a one of a kind find with outstanding iron clad provenance that can be used to trace the history directly to the original owner.
The purchaser will alsoreceivea copy of the provenance and details of the estate in the form of paperwork put out by the major sale house that sold this piece as well as a copy of a Baltimore Sun Newspaper article which further discusses the provenance and how Eisenhower's items given to George Allen would be offered for sale to the public in a once in a lifetime event. It is very difficult to place a value on one of a kind historical pieces such as this so I am pricing this with a small premium on the higher end as we know whom it was presented to as it came directly out of the estate and comes with the written provenance from the sale company that handled the estate sale. A recent sale held by Heritage sales sold one of the paintings that was acquired from the estate sale for close to $12,000. I called heritage to verify this and was told it was due to the excellent provenance which is the same paperwork you will receive with this item.
