·Diameter: 4.64 (118mm)

·Flared Mouth: 2.47” (63mm)

·Foot Diameter: 2.35” (60mm)

Condition: Very good, “as found” condition, with nochips, repairs, or restorations. This lovely vase has been in storage forcenturies, and has not been cleaned, so it still retains surface deposits/mineralson both the inside and outside of the vessel that I have left “as is,” but thenew owner may wish to have professionally cleaned by a conservator.

Provenance/History: This Jun ware vase was part of an old,private collection in China, until the family moved to Taiwan. It remained in storage there for decadesuntil it was purchased at sale by this site.It is part now part of my personal collection in Washington State andthis is the first time that this Yuan Dynasty, Jun kiln vase has been on salein the United States.

Painted in blue on thesides of the vase are pictographic images of: Buddha and small animals following him, Buddhist goddesses, and even his disciples in variousstages of enlightenment. There alsoappears to be both Chinese and Mongolian characters painted on the vase, but Icannot translate Mongolian. {See belowfor details and my English translations of the graphics and Chinese characters.}

NOTE: This item isunconditionally guaranteed authentic. It was legally imported into the UnitedStates from a private collection and is legal to sell and own under U.S.Statute Title 19, Chapter 14, Code 2611, Convention on Cultural Property.

·Buddha,shown standing tall on two feet and looking upwards with his mouth wide open asif speaking to the Heavens. In front ofhis mouth is small image that depicts his breath or his words. AMAZING!! {See macro photo # 5.}

·Directlybelow Buddha, is the Chinese compound character “jen” for “man.” In thiscontext, it refers to the fundamental virtue of both Confucianism and Buddhism “tolove one another.” It is thebenevolence that must link each man with his neighbor, shown here with the Chinesecharacter Erh “=” that can mean just the number “two” but in thiscase, it means “all of mankind.”

·Tothe left of Buddha, are two sitting cats with long tails. Under magnification, you can even see theirpointed ears. WOW!

·Directlyabove Buddha, Arhats (in Chinese a Luóhàn is one of thehistorical disciples of the Buddha that has attained Enlightenment).

·BuddhistGoddesses—Bodhisattva (Chinese: 菩薩).

·Buddha’sdisciples in various stages of enlightenment are depicted in vertical columns.

·Therealso appear to be Mongolian characters painted on the vase in short, vertical columns,but I cannot translate Mongolian.
