This beautiful scroll was meticulously handwritten by a certified traditional Jewish scribe (Sofer Stam) using special black ink on coated white parchment (known as Mashuach). Created in Jerusalem, Israel, circa 1980, the calligraphy is exceptionally beautiful and impressive. True to ancient tradition, the individual parchment panels are seamlessly sewn together using Gidin—special threads made from the leg sinews of a kosher animal.
Condition & PreservationThe parchment has held the ink wonderfully over the decades, and the Hebrew lettering remains crisp, dark, and highly legible. The scroll has developed a beautiful, authentic patina. Considering its age and ritual use, the scroll has been very well-preserved. With proper care, this piece will remain a breathtaking artifact for centuries to come.
Please note: As is normal with genuine, vintage scrolls, there is some minor age-related wear and signs of use. This includes a few stains, some creasing toward the bottom edge, and standard scribal text correction marks. Overall, it is in good condition relative to its age.
